The Sierra Vista Mountain Lions waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with five straight wins but they left with six. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Doral Academy Red Rock 53-19 at home. With that victory, Sierra Vista brought their scoring average up to 50.1 points per game.
Sierra Vista found their leader in underclassman Donnayja Gibson, who scored 21 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. Gibson is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last seven games she's played. Zoe Caballero was another key contributor, scoring three points along with three steals.
Sierra Vista is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. As for Doral Academy Red Rock, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-11.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sierra Vista will square off against Silverado at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Timia Thomas and Gibson. As for Doral Academy Red Rock, they will head out on the road to challenge Rancho at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Rancho is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
