Softball Recap: Mira Mesa Finds Home Field Redemption Against Grossmont

There's no place like home for Mira Mesa, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Monday. They came out on top against the Grossmont Foothillers by a score of 9-4 on Tuesday. For the Marauders, this counts as revenge for the 6-2 victory the Foothillers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2022.

Brooklyn Haug was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carla Murguia, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Isabel Novak was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

Mira Mesa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Grossmont only posted an OBP of .323.

Mira Mesa moved to 4-8 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Grossmont, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9-1 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mira Mesa will take on Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Patriots' pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so the Marauders' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Grossmont, they will challenge Mount Miguel at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Foothillers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Matadors have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season.
