Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Valparaiso Vikings, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They took a 24-20 hit to the loss column at the hands of Merrillville. Valparaiso's loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
Justin Clark and Thomas Burda certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Clark rushed for 108 yards, while Burda rushed for 134 yards. Burda is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last four games he's played.
Valparaiso's defeat dropped their record down to 9-3. As for Merrillville, their win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-2.
Valparaiso does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Merrillville will head out on the road to face off against Fort Wayne Snider at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Fort Wayne Snider will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last.
