It was a good run, but the Mattawan Wildcats unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 53-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of Grandville. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Mattawan of the 58-31 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Mattawan lost, one person who can't be blamed is Delaney Elsmore. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 28 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Elsmore has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Caitlin Ryan, who scored five points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Mattawan's loss ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 7-5. As for Grandville, their victory bumped their record up to 3-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mattawan's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Lancers at 7:00 p.m. on February 1st. Lakeshore will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive. As for Grandville, they will head out on the road to face off against the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Jenison is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak.
