The Marie Philip Galloping Ghosts have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matchups by 21 points or more this season. Everything went their way against Newman on Thursday as Marie Philip made off with a 68-42 win. The win was just business as usual for Marie Philip, who after seven games remain undefeated this season.
Leading Marie Philip to victory were Xavier DeLeon and Jeremy Novas. DeLeon scored 25 points along with eight rebounds and five steals, while Novas dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Novas has scored at least 25% of Marie Philip's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Riebe, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and three blocks.
Marie Philip pushed their record up to 7-0 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.0 points per game. As for Newman, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.
Marie Philip will be home for the holidays to greet Maryland School for the Deaf at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday. Maryland School for the Deaf will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in their respective state's rankings (they are ranked 96th in Maryland, while Marie Philip is ranked fifth in Massachusetts). As for Newman, they will head out on the road to face off against IMG Academy at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
