The Dawson School Mustangs will head out on the road to square off against the Lyons Lions at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Dawson School is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
Dawson School took a loss when they played away from home last Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They walked away with a 5-2 win over Liberty Common.

JD March looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He is becoming a predictor of Dawson School's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 3-1 (and 7-8 when he doesn't).
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Julian Sutton, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Milo Richtel, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Dawson School was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Liberty Common only posted a batting average of .192.
Meanwhile, Lyons entered their tilt with Highland on Saturday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Huskies. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by seven runs or more this season.
Jake LaCrosse was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 12 over 6.2 innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, Leo Irvin was incredible, going 3-for-4 with six RBI, one run, and one double. Milo Garfein also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Dawson School now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Lyons, their record is now 12-6.
Lyons' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Dawson School hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .353. It's a different story for Lyons, though, as they've only averaged .256. Will they be able to contain Dawson School's hitters?
Everything went Dawson School's way against Lyons in their previous matchup back in May of 2025, as Dawson School made off with a 12-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
