Mount Desert Island is 2-8 against Hermon since May of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Trojans will head out to face off against the Hawks at 4:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Mount Desert Island sitting on three straight wins and Hermon on four.
While Mount Desert Island didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-10), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against Caribou on Monday as they made off with a 13-3 victory. With that win, the Trojans brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.

Ella Watson was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Taylor Grant, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Genivieve Lapointe was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
Mount Desert Island hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Hermon narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Old Town 3-2. The three-run effort marked the Hawks' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Like Mount Desert Island, Hermon also got a great game from a two-way player: Braelyn Wilcox. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Wilcox was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
Wilcox wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kenzie Gallant, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Mount Desert Island pushed their record up to 5-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Hermon, their record now sits at 5-1.
Mount Desert Island's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's match. The Trojans have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Hermon, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Mount Desert Island continue to outrun the ball?
Mount Desert Island came up short against Hermon when the teams last played last Monday, falling 5-0. Can the Trojans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
