The Dryden Cardinals will head out on the road to challenge the Kingston Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Dryden stacked an eighth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They blew past Memphis, posting a 63-15 win at home. Given Dryden's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 268th, while Memphis is ranked 727th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, after a string of six wins, Kingston's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They fell to Ubly 70-64. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (63), Kingston still had to take the loss.
Despite their defeat, Kingston saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Owen Corlis, who scored 23 points along with seven rebounds and five assists, was perhaps the best of all. Corlis hasn't dropped below 16 points for seven straight games. Another player making a difference was Austin Deroseau, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds.
The win (which was Dryden's fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.8 points per game. As for Kingston, their loss dropped their record down to 10-6.
Dryden beat Kingston 61-50 when the teams last played back in January. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Deroseau, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 13 rebounds. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Dryden still be able to contain Deroseau? There's only one way to find out.
