Independence and Hough are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Independence Patriots will be playing in front of their home fans against the Hough Huskies at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Independence is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12 runs per game this season.
Independence is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Mallard Creek with a sharp 20-4 victory on Monday. The Patriots have beaten the Mavericks the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Mavericks has come to flipping the script.
Maliyah Alexander made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Hough ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They skirted past Porter Ridge 6-5. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Huskies.
Payton Elwell spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on 11 hits.
At the plate, Hough let Ashlyn Rogers and Reese Lavey run wild. Rogers scored a run while going 1-for-3, while Lavey scored two runs while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Maylee Stroupe, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Hough's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Independence, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.
Independence came out on top in a nail-biter against Hough in their previous matchup back in March of 2023, sneaking past 8-7. Will Independence repeat their success, or does Hough have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
