The Valley Vikings had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 36.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 26-23 victory over Los Alamos. For Valley, this counts as revenge for the 34-15 defeat Los Alamos walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2022.
Charles Lopez-Burton continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 269 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.4 yards per carry. Lopez-Burton is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played. Tazhe Wilson was another key contributor, rushing for 131 yards while picking up 7.3 yards per carry.
Los Alamos' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Melaki Gutierrez, who rushed for 63 yards and a touchdown, and Kyle Evenhus who threw for 92 yards and two touchdowns. Gutierrez was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 63 yards.
Valley's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Los Alamos, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 7-2.
Valley will head out on the road to face off against Rio Grande at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th. As for Los Alamos, they will be playing at home against Del Norte at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th. Del Norte comes in on a streak of failing to score more than eight points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
