The Firth Cougars will square off against the Declo Hornets at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Firth has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with three straight losses, while Declo will come in with ten straight wins.
Firth came up short against Salmon on Friday, falling 16-5.
Cooper Park was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season. Brycen Andersen was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Declo). They blew past Glenns Ferry 24-1 on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won eight matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.
Race Zollinger and Cade Miller were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Zollinger tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Miller struck out seven batters over 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. At bat, Zollinger went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double, while Miller got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Trevin Averett was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyle Bott, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.
Declo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .761. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Firth's defeat dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Declo, their victory bumped their record up to 11-4.
Saturday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Firth has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .432. However, it's not like Declo struggles in that department as they've averaged .519. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Firth's way against Declo in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, as Firth made off with a 17-0 win. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hornets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
