Basketball Recap: Lathrop Falls Despite Big Games from Bryan Gamboa and Caiden Wisnieski

Lathrop was the 87-77 winner over Central Valley when they last played one another back in November of 2018, but their luck changed this time around. The Lathrop Spartans fell 63-51 to the Central Valley Hawks on Wednesday.

Lathrop's loss came despite strong showings from Caiden Wisnieski and Bryan Gamboa. Wisnieski dropped a double-double on 15 points and 15 boards, while Gamboa posted 11 points and five rebounds. Those 15 rebounds gave Wisnieski a new career-high. Joseph Perkins was another key player, putting up eight points and six boards.

Leading Central Valley to victory were Jace Mclennon and Andre Flores. Mclennon went 8 for 15 on his way to 22 points, while Flores put up 12 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Mclennon continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Michael Martinez also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Lathrop's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-11. As for Central Valley, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lathrop will face off against Beyer at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Beyer's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three contests. As for Central Valley, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Ceres at 7:30 p.m. Central Valley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.8 points per game this season.
