The Stayton Eagles pushed their score all the way to 55 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 60-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of North Marion. While losing is never fun, Stayton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oregon basketball rankings (they are ranked 130th, while North Marion is ranked 24th).
When it comes to explaining why Stayton lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kaden Holm. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. Tanner Starbuck was another key contributor, scoring five points along with eight rebounds and seven assists.
Stayton has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season. As for North Marion, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-5.
Stayton will be playing in front of their home fans against Cascade at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Cascade's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. As for North Marion, they will head out on the road to square off against Philomath at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. North Marion is coming into the matchup with 11 straight wins on the road, meaning Philomath will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win.
