The Cumberland Pirates were the 57-31 winner over the Cerro Gordo/Bement Broncos when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Cumberland took a 51-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cerro Gordo/Bement on Tuesday.
Despite the defeat, Cumberland had strong showings from Blake Mcmechan, who scored nine points along with five assists, and Zack Harmon, who scored nine points along with 11 rebounds. Those five assists set a new season-high mark for him. Zack Buescher was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Even though they lost, Cumberland were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Cumberland's defeat was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 5-6. As for Cerro Gordo/Bement, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cumberland will square off against Okaw Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Okaw Valley has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 385 points over their last six games. Cerro Gordo/Bement won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Fisher at 7:15 p.m. on December 20th.
