Softball Recap: Quartz Hill Makes It Four in a Row on the Road

Quartz Hill put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Friday. They never let the Apple Valley Sun Devils get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Royals, who have now won three games by eight runs or more so far this season.

Not much got past Dakota Ponder, who gave up just four hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Apple Valley off the board. Ponder has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Leanna Medina, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Terpstra, who scored three runs while going 2-for-4.

Medina wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Quartz Hill kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. Quartz Hill is a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Quartz Hill's win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Apple Valley, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-3-1 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Quartz Hill will square off against Lancaster at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Apple Valley, they will face off against Highland at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Highland will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Apple Valley surely won't give up without a fight.
