Westland is 1-9 against the Eagles since December of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Westland Cougars are on the road again and plays the New Albany Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 98-59, which was the final score in Westland's tilt against the Shamrocks on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Westland can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 455th, while the Shamrocks are ranked 127th).
Westland's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Sir Gathings, who scored 21 points, and Noah Kershaw who scored 21 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gathings has scored all season. Breaker Heller Jr. was another key contributor, scoring four points along with six assists.
Meanwhile, New Albany waltzed into their match on Tuesday with ten straight wins but they left with 11. They took down Groveport-Madison 68-50.
Westland dropped their record down to 4-13 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.5 points per game. As for New Albany, their victory bumped their record up to 14-4.
Westland might still be hurting after the 68-44 defeat they got from the Eagles when the teams last played back in January. Can Westland avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
