The Cardinal Hayes Cardinals had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They had just enough and edged Archbishop Stepinac out 29-26. The win was familiar territory for Cardinal Hayes who now have four in a row.
Despite the loss, Archbishop Stepinac still got an impressive performance from Will Currid, who threw for 225 yards and a touchdown.
Even if they lost, Archbishop Stepinac's defense still kept up the pressure with four sacks. Gabe Duran was especially locked on to Cardinal Hayes' QB and sacked him twice.
The last time Cardinal Hayes lost on the road was back back in October. Having now won three straight away matchups, they've pushed their record up to 9-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 40.3 points per game. As for Archbishop Stepinac, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-3.
Cardinal Hayes is on the road again on Saturday and play against Iona Prep at 7:00 p.m. on November 18th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New York (Iona Prep is ranked third, while Cardinal Hayes is ranked first). Archbishop Stepinac does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
