The Bertrand Vikings lost to the Southwest Roughriders back in January of 2023, but the Bertrand Vikings didn't allow the Southwest Roughriders the same satisfaction on Friday. Bertrand came out on top against Southwest by a score of 47-40.
Bertrand found their leader in underclassman Thunder Nelson, who scored 22 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Nelson has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Scott Bieker, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Bertrand has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-6 record this season. As for Southwest, their loss was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 4-9.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bertrand won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Overton at 5:00 p.m. on January 13th. Hopefully Overton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 last Saturday. As for Southwest, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Cheylin on Tuesday. Cheylin presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Southwest in their respective states (Cheylin is ranked 99th in Kansas, while Southwest is ranked 233rd in Nebraska).
