Omaha North hasn't had much luck against Omaha Westside recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The two teams will round out the year against one another at at 1:45 p.m. Omaha North is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56 points per game this season.
Omaha North came up into this matchup off a tough 32-point defeat two weeks ago. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Papillion-LaVista by a score of 71-68 on Thursday. The Vikings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Sierra Thomas, who went 6 for 9 on her way to 17 points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Akazja Foster, who posted 11 points and three steals.
Even though they lost, Omaha North smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 12 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Omaha Westside had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They managed a 52-48 win over Valley on Saturday.
Omaha Westside found their leader in freshman Himayajo Metoyer, who went 5 of 12 on her way to 21 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. With that strong performance, Metoyer is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Kimora Jenkins, who put up 12 points and five rebounds.
Omaha North now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Omaha Westside, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Omaha North has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 40.2 boards per game. However, it's not like Omaha Westside struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.8 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Omaha North might still be hurting after the 73-53 loss they got from Omaha Westside in their previous meeting back in February. Can Omaha North avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
