The Roger Bacon Spartans will square off against the Cincinnati Christian Cougars at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Roger Bacon's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Cincinnati Christian has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
Roger Bacon is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 13 runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy on Thursday. They lost 11-1 to the Eagles. The game marked the Spartans' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Roger Bacon saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Erin Pare, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Addi Schwartz also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Cincinnati Christian got the win against Cincinnati Country Day on Monday by a conclusive 14-4. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won four matches by ten runs or more so far this season.
Kelsey Stacy spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Anna Bowling, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ava Starks, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Cincinnati Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.2 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.8.
Cincinnati Christian has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Roger Bacon, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Roger Bacon has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .435. However, it's not like Cincinnati Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .453. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Roger Bacon's way against Cincinnati Christian in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Roger Bacon made off with a 22-7 win. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
