The Woodland Beavers are taking a road trip to square off against the Hockinson Hawks at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Woodland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.2 runs per game this season.
Woodland will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Tuesday, then bounced right back against R.A. Long on Wednesday. The Beavers never let the Lumberjacks get on the board and left with a 14-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Beavers in their matchups with the Lumberjacks: they've now won three in a row.
Addi Christensen was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Christensen was also solid in the batter's box, earning one RBI, one run, and two stolen bases.
In other batting news, Woodland let Alexis Alpanalp and Emma Barrow run wild. Alpanalp went 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Barrow went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those two runs gave Alpanalp a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brynn Skelton, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Meanwhile, Hockinson lost 17-3 to Ridgefield on Wednesday.
Hockinson has also been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. As for Woodland, their win bumped their record up to 7-4.
Hockinson's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Woodland has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.6 hits per game. It's a different story for Hockinson, though, as they've been averaging 10.1 hits. Given Woodland's sizable advantage in that area, the Hawks will need to find a way to close that gap.
Woodland took their victory against Hockinson when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 10-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Beavers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
