The Seguin Matadors will head out on the road to challenge the Canyon Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Tuesday, Seguin came up short against the Patriots and fell 70-58. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Seguin in their matchups with the Patriots: they've now lost seven in a row.
Despite their defeat, Seguin saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. John Jackson, who scored 24 points along with eight rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. That was a full 41.4% of Seguin's points, marking the tenth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Cameron Juarz-bruns, who scored 13 points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Canyon's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their sixth straight defeat. They fell just short of Smithson Valley by a score of 60-57. The matchup was a 21-21 toss-up at halftime, but Canyon couldn't quite close it out.
Seguin has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-15 record this season. As for Canyon, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-23.
Seguin came up short against the Cougars in their previous meeting back in January, falling 71-63. Can Seguin avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
