After flying high against Foothills Christian on Monday, Clairemont came back down to earth. The Chieftains took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cathedral Catholic Dons on Wednesday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Dons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-1 on April 11th.
Clairemont started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 17-25, 25-22, 28-26, 25-14.

Despite the defeat, Clairemont saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Sean Sumner had 13 blocks. Sumner is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now had two or more in each of the last seven games he's played.
Clairemont's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 22-10. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Cathedral Catholic, St. Augustine, and Francis Parker. As for the Dons, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season.
