Holden Ward made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Zach Colton was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for Canton: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 2-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Bailey Gardner, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
Canton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, Sugar Valley Rural was a bit more limited in their contest on Monday. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Muncy. The Phoenix's defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Bentley Andrus made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run. Brody Swanger was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Canton's victory bumped their record up to 5-8. As for Sugar Valley Rural, their loss dropped their record down to 6-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Canton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Sugar Valley Rural struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
