The Hidalgo Pirates fought the good fight in their overtime match against the Port Isabel Tarpons on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 45-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tarpons. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Hidalgo in their matchups with Port Isabel: they've now lost four in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Hidalgo lost, one person who can't be blamed is Nick Hernandez. Despite the final result, he scored ten points along with six rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hernandez has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Javier Martinez, who scored five points along with five steals.
Hidalgo's defeat dropped their record down to 14-16. As for Port Isabel, the victory was the 18th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 24-6.
Hidalgo will head out on the road to challenge Zapata at 8:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Hidalgo focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Friday. As for Port Isabel, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against La Feria at 8:00 p.m. Port Isabel is on a seven-game streak of home wins, La Feria a six-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
