Pierce moved up to 521 from 582 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Sacramento Valley. The Bears were able to make move up by besting Trinity 27-6.
Pierce extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Wolves, 27-6. This was the team's eighth consecutive win.
Mt. Shasta's dynamic duo of Jake Greene and Dylan Padula proved tough for Live Oak to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Greene threw for 106 yards and two touchdowns and Padula had 86 yards receiving. Dominic Tognolini helped Mt. Shasta's passing attack out by catching four balls for 55 yards.
Nate Smith provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Bears beat Trinity. He completed three passes for 34 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 100 yards. Smith's favorite target this week was Andy Corona, who caught two passes for 24 yards.
Corona was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 25 carries, he ran for 122 yards as Pierce fell to the Lions.
On the ground, Mt. Shasta's Elijah Chapman has rushed for 867 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Zach Marks. The Durham star has 15 catches for 349 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Pierce takes on second place Live Oak. The Bears topped Jeremy Wardrip's team last week, while Live Oak defeated Mike Dellabona's team.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will go head-to-head with its top pass rusher when Dan Johnson's team and Pierce face off next week. Chas Benton has dominated opposing QBs with a total of nine sacks, while Romario Acosta has 811 passing yards and 10 touchdowns on the season.
There should be lots of points scored when the Bears and the Lions face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Pierce comes in having scored 272 this season, while Live Oak has scored 225. The Bears scored 27 points last week as they bested the Wolves.
