The Lakeland Christian Vikings have been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a hard 53-36 fall against McKeel Academy on Thursday. Lakeland Christian was down 41-21 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Several Vikings players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Eleni Katzaras, who scored 15 points along with two steals. Katzaras is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last three games she's played. Kiya Boyce was another key contributor, scoring four points.
Leading McKeel Academy to victory were Ava Anderson and Malayna Sheffield. Anderson dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Sheffield dropped a double-double on 11 points and 16 rebounds. Sheffield hasn't dropped below two blocks for 13 straight games. Another player making a difference was Nicaria McHellon, who scored 14 points along with two steals.
Lakeland Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 11-6. As for McKeel Academy, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 13-9.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lakeland Christian won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Geneva Classical Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th. Geneva Classical Academy will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak. As for McKeel Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Fort Meade at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
