Farmington hit Sullivan with a five-run sixth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Eagles came up short against the Knights, falling 11-1. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Eagles couldn't push the score so high this time.
North County came out on top against East Carter on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run fourth inning. The Raiders' pitchers stepped up to hand the Redbirds a 7-0 shutout. Considering the Raiders have won eight contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Jaxon Scherffius made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kyle Straughan, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Kendrick Simon also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
North County hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as East Carter struck out eight times.
North County pushed their record up to 13-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Sullivan, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-8.
Sullivan was able to grind out a solid win over North County in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 8-3. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Raiders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
