Westlake is 0-2 against Elyria Catholic since October of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Westlake Demons will be playing in front of their home fans against the Elyria Catholic Panthers at 7:00 p.m. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though North Olmsted scored an imposing 49 points on Friday, Westlake still came out on top. Westlake managed a 54-49 win over North Olmsted.
Matthew Porcelli continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 204 yards and four touchdowns. Porcelli is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Sam Brucchieri, who threw for 302 yards and a touchdown while completing 76.3% of his passes.
Westlake's defensive line stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Leading the way was Chris Campbell and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, Elyria Catholic had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They strolled past Fairview with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 21-6. The score was all tied up 6-6 at the break, but Elyria Catholic was the (much) better team in the second half.
Elyria Catholic can attribute much of their success to Anthony Demartinis, who rushed for 81 yards and a touchdown.
Westlake's victory on Friday bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Elyria Catholic, their win on Friday bumped their record up to 3-6.
Westlake took a serious blow against Elyria Catholic in their previous matchup back in September of 2022, falling 42-13. Thankfully for Westlake, Levi Ellis (who rushed for 142 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.4 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
