The Chaparral Firebirds will head out to challenge the Notre Dame Prep Saints at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Chaparral knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past three matchups -- so hopefully Notre Dame Prep likes a good challenge.
On Wednesday, Chaparral beat Desert Mountain 11-8. With that victory, the Firebirds brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Brock Little and Camden Evans dominated on the mound. Little pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit, while Evans pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Little has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Bo Shuba, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February. Gavin Mesa also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Chaparral kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Notre Dame Prep earned a 6-2 win over Mountain Pointe on Wednesday. The Saints haven't had any issues with the Pride recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Shane Behnke looked comfortable as he pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, Aidan Martinez was excellent, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Owen Boeding, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.
Chaparral is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Notre Dame Prep, their record is now 7-12.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Chaparral has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Notre Dame Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Chaparral couldn't quite get it done against Notre Dame Prep in their previous meeting back in March as they fell 6-3. Can the Firebirds avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
