The San Dieguito Academy Mustangs are taking a road trip to square off against the Canyon Crest Academy Ravens at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. San Dieguito Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
San Dieguito Academy took a eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against El Camino, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Mustangs sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over the Wildcats on Thursday. The game was the first time the Mustangs have beaten the Wildcats on their field since March 18, 2017.
Lauryn McGarry spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Emi Adams, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Willow Wright, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
San Dieguito Academy hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least three batters in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Canyon Crest Academy had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They had just enough and edged out Vista 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Ravens have posted since March 21st.
Canyon Crest Academy also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Grace Yao gave up only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Sophie Kearse was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That stolen base was her first of the season.
San Dieguito Academy is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Canyon Crest Academy, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 12-9-1.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. San Dieguito Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .330. However, it's not like Canyon Crest Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .314. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
