For the first time this season, Terre Haute North Vigo will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will head out to take on the Bloomington South Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Kyleigh Walker was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. Walker was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Terre Haute North Vigo let Kara Salmon and Kenzie Zigler run wild. Salmon went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Zigler went 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Salmon is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Emma Morrison also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Terre Haute North Vigo lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more home runs.
Meanwhile, Bloomington South waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Cardinals 14-1. That looming 14-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Panthers yet this season.
Rachel Johnson made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Johnson was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Abby Purtlebaugh, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Akasha Burton was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Terre Haute North Vigo's record is now 4-2. As for Bloomington South, their record now sits at 3-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Terre Haute North Vigo hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.3 home runs per game. However, it's not like Bloomington South struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Terre Haute North Vigo might still be hurting after the 10-3 loss they got from Bloomington South in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Patriots avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
