Volcano Vista is 8-1 against Atrisco Heritage Academy since September of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. Despite their defeat, Volcano Vista saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Alijah (A-Train) Gonzales, who rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown, was perhaps the best of all.
Meanwhile, Atrisco Heritage Academy had to suffer through a rough 56-6 loss at the hands of Cleveland. While losing is never fun, Atrisco Heritage Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico football rankings (they are ranked 26th, while Cleveland is ranked third).
Despite the defeat, Atrisco Heritage Academy got a solid performance out of Marquise Renfro, who gained 139 total yards. Renfro was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 56 yards.
Volcano Vista's loss dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Atrisco Heritage Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-4.
Everything came up roses for Volcano Vista against Atrisco Heritage Academy in their previous matchup back in November of 2022 as the squad secured a 64-14 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Volcano Vista since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
