Hillsdale is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Capuchino is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Fighting Knights will host the Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Hillsdale 2.5, Capuchino 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Hillsdale fell victim to Burlingame and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 1-0. The Fighting Knights' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Hillsdale saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sophia Shelton, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, while Capuchino put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for San Mateo. The Mustangs blew past the Bearcats 11-0. Considering the Mustangs have won seven matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Lola Sierra was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI and three doubles. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Capuchino let Dana Motroni and Star Gutierrez run wild. Motroni went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run, while Gutierrez got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. That's the most RBI Motroni has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Motroni, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.
Capuchino kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Capuchino has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Hillsdale, their loss dropped their record down to 13-7-1.
Hillsdale came out on top in a nail-biter against Capuchino when the teams last played on April 8th, sneaking past 2-1. Do the Fighting Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
