Basketball Game Preview: Shaker Bison vs. Albany Academy for Girls Bears

The Shaker Bison will face off against the Albany Academy for Girls Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Shaker knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven contests -- so hopefully Albany Academy for Girls likes a good challenge.

Last Sunday, Shaker wrapped up 2024 with a 58-43 victory over Webster Schroeder. Given the Bison's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 12th, while the Warriors are ranked 112th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Shaker's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Peyton Hoblock, who went 7 of 11 on her way to 14 points and six steals. Hoblock has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayla Geter, who posted 20 points.

Shaker smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Albany Academy for Girls). They took their game on Sunday with ease, bagging an 82-9 win over Syracuse Academy of Science. The Bears have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 27 points or more this season.

Shaker's victory bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Albany Academy for Girls, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-1.
