With a playoff game on the line, the Rocky Mount Academy Eagles rose to the challenge on Friday. They managed a 38-32 win over the Eagles. Rocky Mount Academy's victory was all the more impressive since Wayne Christian was averaging only 14.31 points allowed on the season.
Rocky Mount Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Marti Mcknight led the charge by rushing for 163 yards and two touchdowns. Cam Dawkins was in the mix as well, providing Rocky Mount Academy with two touchdowns.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Rocky Mount Academy's defensive line and their six sacks. Leading the way was Wyatt Wells and his two sacks.
Wayne Christian's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Shiquan Ethridge, who picked up 142 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Ethridge was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield for a catch that went for 61 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Nate Peck, who threw for 164 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 passes.
The victory was the 11th in a row for Rocky Mount Academy, bringing their record for this year to 11-2. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 39.09 points. As for Wayne Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-2.
