Cape Henlopen has gone 7-1 against Woodbridge recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Vikings will look to defend their home field against the Raiders at 4:15 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Cape Henlopen has ten straight wins, Woodbridge has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Cape Henlopen is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Delaware's top teams: Sussex Tech, who was ranked 18th at the time (Cape Henlopen was ranked second). The Vikings were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Ravens on Thursday. Considering the Vikings have won eight matches by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Abby Marsh was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Ava Calciano and Hayden Hudson did most of the damage at the plate: Calciano went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Hudson went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Alivia Heers, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Woodbridge didn't have quite enough to beat Sussex Academy on Thursday and fell 3-1.
Woodbridge saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kimora Harris, who went 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was Harris' first of the season.
Cape Henlopen pushed their record up to 10-0 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Woodbridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cape Henlopen hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .411. However, it's not like Woodbridge struggles in that department as they've averaged .344. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Cape Henlopen beat Woodbridge 5-1 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Raiders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
