Basketball Recap: Mccluer South-Berkeley Drops Highest Score of Season Against Gateway Science Academy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask McCluer South-Berkeley). They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Gateway Science Academy Gators on Friday, sneaking past 52-49. The score was all tied up 22-22 at the break, but the Bulldogs were the better team in the second half.

McCluer South-Berkeley's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dylan Merkle, who posted eight points along with ten rebounds and four blocks. Merkle is crushing it when it comes to blocks: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lamar Mccoy, who went 8 of 14 en route to 20 points.

McCluer South-Berkeley's win bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Gateway Science Academy, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

McCluer South-Berkeley and KIPP will face off at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. As for Gateway Science Academy, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Roosevelt at 6:00 p.m. on January 8, 2025.
