Softball Recap: Saguaro Has No Trouble Against St. Mary's

Saguaro won the last time they faced St. Mary and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Sabercats blew past the Knights 16-6. The result was nothing new for the Sabercats, who have now won eight matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Malina Morones made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hailey Holliday, who went 4-for-5 with five RBI, two doubles, and one triple. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexa Simpson, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Saguaro kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.

Saguaro is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-13 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for St. Mary's, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 12 of their last 14 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-15 record this season.

Saguaro does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for St. Mary's, they will square off against Shadow Mountain at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Matadors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.5 runs per game on average), something the Knights will no doubt try to take advantage of.
