The Riverton Silverwolves will venture away from home to square off against the Mountain Ridge Sentinels at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Riverton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
Riverton is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Bingham, who was ranked seventh at the time (Riverton was ranked 20th). The Silverwolves walked away with a 4-1 win over the Miners on Friday.
Issac Jones looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, McKade Ortiz was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Talyn Bruce, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Mountain Ridge ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Herriman, sneaking past 15-13. The victory was nothing new for the Sentinels as they're now sitting on three straight.
Colby Claassen looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Stockton Fowlks and Tyler James did most of the damage at the plate: Fowlks scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances, while James scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. What's more, James posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March. Simeon Bacciocco also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Mountain Ridge's record is now 10-3. As for Riverton, their win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 8-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Riverton hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Mountain Ridge struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Riverton's way against Mountain Ridge when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Riverton made off with a 14-5 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Silverwolves since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
