Basketball Recap: Providence Classical Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Malachi Thompson and Grafton Eiff

Providence Classical entered their match against Socrates Academy on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Providence Classical Paladins came up short against the Socrates Academy Owls, falling 76-54. The Paladins have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Providence Classical's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Grafton Eiff, who went 8 for 11 on his way to 26 points in addition to eight assists and three steals, and Malachi Thompson, who went 11 for 15 on his way to 23 points in addition to five rebounds and three blocks. The contest was Thompson's third in a row with at least ten points.

Leading Socrates Academy to victory were Kade Clark and JP Polburn. Clark went 6 of 8 from beyond the arc on his way to 31 points, while Polburn dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 rebounds. Polburn is crushing it when it comes to boards: he's pulled down at least 12 every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kinston Swann, who posted nine points.

Providence Classical's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-7. As for Socrates Academy, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Providence Classical will square off against Arborbrook Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Socrates Academy, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, an 83-44 win against The Fletcher School on the 9th.
