Blake LaRussa and Isaiah Harper provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Lakeland. The connection was good for 80 yards, the longest such play in AAA Southeastern this season.
Grassfield extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Cavaliers, 27-22. The win marks seventh in a row for the the Grizzlies.
C.J. Thomas and Josh Marriner gave Western Branch a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Thomas threw for 67 yards and 12 touchdowns, while Marriner ran for 150 yards. Eugene Summerville also contributed to the rushing game with 27 yards on the ground.
Harper was the best wideout in the league this week as Grassfield beat Lakeland. Harper tallied one reception for 80 yards. Paris Smith helped Grassfield's passing attack out by catching five balls for 67 yards.
LaRussa provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Marty Asprey's team bested the Cavaliers. He completed 11 passes for 234 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for seven yards.
The Grizzlies' LaRussa and Smith have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading AAA Southeastern in both passing and receiving yards. LaRussa has thrown for 897 yards this season, while Smith, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 17 catches for 446 yards. Marriner from the Bruins leads the league in rushing with 1107 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Grassfield takes on King's Fork. The Grizzlies are currently in first, while the Bulldogs are in fourth.
Grassfield and Lakeland played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Grassfield eventually emerging with a 27-22 victory. LaRussa in the win.
