Cheylin hasn't had much luck against Northern Valley recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Cheylin Cougars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Northern Valley Huskies at 7:30 p.m. Cheylin will be strutting in after a win while Northern Valley will be coming in after a loss.
Last Tuesday, Cheylin greeted the New Year with with a 51-36 victory over Wauneta-Palisade.

Landon Schoenberger and Kohen Pochop were among the main playmakers for Cheylin as the former posted 20 points and five assists and the latter had 15 points along with six boards and three steals. With that strong performance, Schoenberger is now averaging an impressive 15.3 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Wright, who posted eight points.
Meanwhile, Northern Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a blow against Alma, falling 69-27. While losing is never fun, the Huskies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 221st in Kansas, while the Cardinals are ranked 48th in Nebraska).
Cheylin will need focus on slowing down Tait Thalheim, one of several Northern Valley players who made an impact when they last played. He earned 14 points. Another player making a difference was Owen Hammond, who put up nine points and six rebounds.
Northern Valley's loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 3-5. As for Cheylin, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Cheylin has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 27.9 boards per game. However, it's not like Northern Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 33.1 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
