The Woodside Wildcats will square off against the King's Academy Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Woodside is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Woodside's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Aragon 10-0. The high-scoring effort was just what the Wildcats needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
Hannah Walker tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Woodside got a massive performance out of Mo Overbey, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Vanessa Carlos, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run.
Woodside always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, King's Academy beat Carlmont 3-0 on Tuesday.
Carlmont's batters probably weren't too happy with Katia Nesper, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 18 Ks (she gave up a single walk). Nesper has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Hannah Woo, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Chaeli Yamakoshi was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Woodside's win bumped their record up to 12-7. As for King's Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 10-7.
Woodside took their win against King's Academy in their previous matchup two weeks ago by a conclusive 13-5 score. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Knights turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
