The Maplewood-Richmond Heights Blue Devils had to kick off their season on the road on Thursday, but they showed no ill effects. They strolled past Parkway South with points to spare, taking the game 59-45.
Parkway South's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ross Mcculla, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Ryan Shanfeld, who scored eight points along with 12 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Parkway South were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Maplewood-Richmond Heights' win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Parkway South, they now have a losing record at 5-6.
Maplewood-Richmond Heights will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Brentwood at 7:00 p.m. on January 9, 2024. As for Parkway South, they will head out on the road to face off against Ritenour at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
