The Lake Weir Hurricanes pushed their score all the way to 57 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 66-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of Umatilla. Lake Weir has not had much luck with Umatilla recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Several Hurricanes players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tra'shawn Warren, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Warren hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Amari Kiner, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Umatilla to victory, but perhaps none more so than Herly Brutus, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. Brutus is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jalen Pressley, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Lake Weir has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season. As for Umatilla, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 16-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lake Weir won't have much time to rest: their next match is against South Sumter at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th. As for Umatilla, they will head out on the road to challenge Belleview at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
