Basketball Recap: Ascent Classical Academy Skates Past Monument Academy with Ease

Ascent Classical Academy's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 65-23 victory over the Monument Academy Lynx. The game marked the Guardians' most dominant win of the season.

Ascent Classical Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jack Colberg, who posted ten points along with six steals and five rebounds. Colberg is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Vann Rogers, who went 6 of 11 en route to 15 points and five steals.

Ascent Classical Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since the start of last season.

Despite the defeat, Monument Academy saw an underclassman step up: freshman Matthew Smith had 14 points.

Ascent Classical Academy's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-8. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.7 points per game. As for Monument Academy, they are on a 12-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.

Ascent Classical Academy will challenge Two Roads Charter School at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Monument Academy, they will be playing at home against Calhan at 7:30 p.m. on February 4th.
