The Singer Hornets will take on the South Cameron Tarpons at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Singer has given up an average of 11.9 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Singer is headed into Thursday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They took a 12-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of Elizabeth.
Breeanna Mitchell made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Alexis Cooley, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in two of her five plate appearances.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Cameron). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Johnson Bayou a 21-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Tarpons haven't had any issues with the Rebels recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Emma Hebert made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Hebert was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in runs.
In other batting news, Peyton Conner and Claire Baccigalopi did most of the damage at the plate: Conner scored four runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances, while Baccigalopi scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those four runs gave Baccigalopi a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylee Bourriaque, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
South Cameron always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
South Cameron's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-3. As for Singer, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.
Everything went Singer's way against South Cameron in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Singer made off with an 18-2 win. Does Singer have another victory up their sleeve, or will South Cameron turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
