St. Edward hasn't had much luck against Harvest Christian Academy recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Green Wave will head out on the road to square off against the Lions at 5:30 p.m.
St. Edward is headed into Friday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Thursday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of Parkview Christian Academy.
Mathew Morrice made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Zachary Lombardo also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, Harvest Christian Academy got the win against Hiawatha on Thursday by a conclusive 18-6. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won nine matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Cael Blaudow made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run and five RBI.
In other pitching news, Marcus Booras looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Harvest Christian Academy let Obed Lopez and Ben Mitchell run wild. Lopez went 3-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs, while Mitchell got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave Lopez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Eddy Figueroa, Jr, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs and one RBI.
Harvest Christian Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Harvest Christian Academy has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for St. Edward, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-22.
St. Edward couldn't quite finish off Harvest Christian Academy when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 6-4. Can the Green Wave avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
