Softball Recap: Thursday's Win Is Powdersville's Sixth in Last Seven Outings

While Powdersville put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for St. Joseph's Catholic. The Patriots didn't even let the Knights on the board, marking the Patriots' second-straight 18-0 shutout. Considering the Patriots have won eight matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Kylie Powell was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Powell was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Powdersville got a massive performance out of Ellison Wood, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave Wood a new career-high. Bree Woods was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Powdersville hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in 13 consecutive contests.

Powdersville is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for St. Joseph's Catholic, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-8.

Coming up, Powdersville will face off against Southside Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for St. Joseph's Catholic, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 20-0 loss against Palmetto on the 28th.
